Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao's son Yuvaratna Balakrishna was introduced as a child artist with 'Thatammakala.' Balayya made his father feel proud as a child actor. Besides playing different roles, Balakrishna became Natsimham for the audience by acting in the mythological and folk films. After the movie 'Thatammakala,' He had done Ram Rahim, Annadammula Anubandham, Vemulavada Bheemakavi, Daanaveera Surakarna, Akbar Saleem Anarkali, Srimad Viraatparvam, Sri Tirupathi venkateshwara Kalyanam, Rowdy Ramudu Konte Krishnudu, Anuraga Devatha, Simham Navvindi, Sahasame Jeevitham, Disco raja, Janani Janmabhumi.

In 1984 Mangammagari Manavadu directed by Kodi Ramakrishna brought stardum to Balakrishna and achieved hood name as a commercial hero. The movie 'Babai Abbayi' in 1985 was directed by Jandhyalaya had found comedy in Balayya. Later, his movies Bhale Tammudu and Kathula Kondayya introduced Balakrishna as a mass hero. 'Sitarama Kalyanam' is a big plus for Balayya's career. In 1987, the movie 'Muvva Gopaludu,' directed by Kodi Ramakrishna, has not only boosted the market but also raised a huge fan following to Balayya. With the film, Muddula Mavayya in the same combination had made Balayya as the audience favourate hero. Later, with his superhit films like Balagopaludu, Nari Nari Naduma Murari, Muddula Menalludu, He gave a tough competation to star heroes. The film 'Lorry Driver' directed by B. Gopal was a blockbuster film which was released in 1990. In 1991, Balayya made an experimental science fiction film with Aditya 369 in Sangeetham Srinivasa Rao's direction which created a sensation. The film, Rowdy Inspector, directed by B. Gopal, was also a super duper hit movie.

The film Bhairavadwipam directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is also a hit film. The songs in this film have been hilarious. The film 'Bobbili Simham,' which was directed by A. Kodandarami Reddy was also a success. In 1999, The film SamarasimhaReddy was blockbuster by breaking all the records in the Telugu film industry. Similarly, NarasimhaNayidu release on the occasion of Sankranthi festival in 2001 croosed teh records. The film grossed Rs 30 crore in those days. The film Lakshmi Narasimha which was released in 2004 was also a hit. Later, Vijayendra Varma, Allari pidugu, veerabhadra, Maharadhi, Okka mogadu were flops at the box office. With these Balayya tasted continous flops in his career. His next film was Panduranga Mahatyam in K Raghavendra Rao's direction. Even though the film did not play well, it revealed that Balayya could do such films. 

When Balakrishna's graph was decreasing, His film Simha in Boyapati Srinu's direction shaked the box office. He ha dattracted the Telugu audience and Cinema industry along with his fans. Balakrishna gave his extrordinary performance in Srirama Rajyam directed by Bapu. After these films, He got his popuarity with the film Legend directed by Boyapati Srinu. Though Lion and Dictator films are a flop, Gauthami Putra Sathakarni was released and became super hit directed by Krish. Next, to his 101 films Paisa Vasool directed by Puri jagannadh and Jai Simha directed by KS Ravi Kumar was released. Though the NTR Biopic two parts did not work commercially, Balakrishna's performance in the film as NTR was appreciated by his fans.
