Actor Kamal kamaraju is well known for his role in Avakay Biryani and went on to star in other films including Kalavaramaye Madilo… He’s played a brother in Arjun Reddy and Katamrayudu. His latest film ‘Kutumba Katha Chitram’ in which he plays a cop is releasing soon and the actor spoke to the press…

How were you cast in the film?

I got this opportunity after Arjun Reddy and Katamrayudu. I had no feelings on the director when I first saw him but he narration was great. On learning that he watches no English films, I was scared about the taking but he did a fine job.

How was the shooting?

We shot in an old house in Gandipet. We would all reach the location in the evenings and wrap up by 2 A.M in the morning. The producers watched the film after the whole shoot was done and they showed us the same. We all love the film and it came out really good.

Did you play a negative role in the film?

That’s kind of a suspense. You’ll have to watch it on screen to know that. The director wanted to wrap up most shots in a single take. Nandu and Sri Mukhi have really performed some single-take shots and it feels like the events are happening in our own house.

What are the other highlights in the film?

There’s a sequence with a girl child in the climax. The scene makes you realise how so many parents are ignoring their responsibilities as a parent and running around aimlessly. You’ll feel emotional as long as you are watching it.

How did you become a character artist from a hero?

This is an interesting journey. Mr.Raj Kandukuri called me up to act in Sundeep Reddy’s Arjun Reddy and I blindly rejected it. However, the director was adamant and I ended up playing Arjun’s brother in the film. Even my parents suggested that I act in films frequently so that the audience will grow familiar with my presence. Since then I’ve been offered several roles.

What’s your next project?

I’m making a love story based out of Vijayawada and this will be my first time shooting there. I’m doing another love story after that and is gonna be an urban-based love story

You are an architect as well, right?

I’m an architect for several buildings and ‘No Vastu’ is my concept.
