Varun's Mindblowing Performance is Seen in Valmiki - Harish Shankar

Harish Shankar created a special status as a commercial director with super hit films like Shock, Mirapakaya, Gabbarsingh and 'DJ'. Valmiki directed by commercial director Harish Shankar. Ra, Achanta and Gopi Achanta produced this film under 14 Reels Plus Banner. Tamil hero Atharva starring in a pivotal role, whereas Mickey J Mayor is composing misc to this film. On the occasion of the movie release on September 20th, director Harish Shankar spoke to media.

How did this project get started?

I met Varun while working for Daagudu Muthalu script work. At that point, Varun asked me why you wanted to do this script with me. You have done films like "Tholi Prema" and "Fidaa", this script will be new to me. To that, Varun said, I will do your type films. I have seen the movie 'Jigarthanda' and decided to remake the film.

How many changes have you done to Tamil film?

I didn't make such changes to this film as I did to Gabbar Singh. Because Jigarthanda itself is a beautiful content. I like content-based films. I had changed some aspects regarding nativity and in Varun's character.

What is the title justification?

Valmiki Maharishi is a great example of a man's supreme change. He is the inspiration for all. Varun's character transformation is a major highlight of the film. That’s the reason we fixed the title.

What about Pooja Hegde's character?

The most important character that will be introduced in the second half. We have planned to give suspense with this one character to the audience. 

Why did you remix the song 'Elluvochi Godadaramma' while there were so many songs?

Pooja Hegde's characterization and the song in the film is only kept as per demand, but not to make a commercial film. If we think like that, there are many songs of Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan. There are four songs in the film. Action episodes are few. 

What kind of care did you take to design Varun's character?

Before he became a hero, Nagababu posted some photos. In this photo, Varun looks almost like this. The photos have been in my mind. He kept his beard for almost six months to get the look.

What is the reason for selecting Atharvaa Murali for another character?

There are many talented youngsters in Telugu also. We auditioned some of them. But he should look like an aspiring director in the film. That's the reason we selected Atharvaa.

Mickey J. Meyer is famous for his classic, melodic songs!  Why did you select him for the mass film?

I did the movie 'Subramanyam For Sale' with Mickey. But I couldn't work with him full time. That is why I selected him for this film.

Are you making a film with Pawan Kalyan?

Along with the fans, you also wish the film done quickly. I was also waiting to do a film with Pawan Kalyan. About a week ago, I showed trailer to Pawan Kalyan. 

What about the rest of the characters in the movie?

Brahmanandam made a small character in the film. Sukumar also has guest appearances. Sathya once again did well in Friend Character. 

What do you tell to Mega fabs?

I say that you will see Varun's performance in 'Valmiki' on September 20th. Especially the interval scene. At the climax, Varun has done something extraordinary than I imagined. Five years after the movie, I will be proud of what Varun has said about Valmiki.

Do you have a chance to produce films in the future?

Definitely yes. There is a lot of scope for good content movies to be made as they are well-liked films with good content in Telugu. Since I am busy writing and directing, I can't produce one. 

Your Next Projects?

2 or 3 projects are in the pipeline. I'll tell you after the release of "Valmiki".
