After proving his mettle as a director with ‘Pilla Zamindar’, G.Ashok is coming up with a thriller entertainer ‘Bhaagmathie’ starring Anushka Shetty in the lead role. The film has finished all formalities and is slated for a release tomorrow. The director spoke to the press…

How did the film come to be?

I first narrated the film to UV creations in 2012 and then to Mr.Prabhas. Even Anushka liked the script but was already committed to doing Bahubali. So the film was delayed for so long

Whats the film’s theme?

This is a universal concept and can be pitched against any concept and will be hit anywhere. This is story is a familiar one and that resonates with most people

Was Anushka your first choice? A stature is required to carry the character of ‘Bhaagamathie’ and a certain fame among the audience. Only Anushka seemed to fit this criteria and that’s the reason we cast Anushka. No one else could have justified the character.

Were the sets too humongous?

We built a special bungalow set for the film. This isn’t just a set but a character in the film itself as the story is centred around this. Though we wanted to make the set a moderate one, we chose to erect the whole set itself. 75percent of the film revolves around this bungalow

How is this film different from Anushka’s other lady oriented film?

This is not a lady oriented film but a screenplay based one. This film would not have been possible without Anushka and had worked really hard for the film. You’ll get to see Anushka’s hard work in the film
