5.5/10

The production values of the film are pretty good as the film looks quite rich in every frame. Rajasekhar does a sincere job in his role of a cop. Credit should go to Prasanth varma for showcasing him in a superb manner.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is the pace and lenght of the film. It is close to 2 hours 20 minutes which looks like three hours because of the dull narration in the first half.

On the whole, Kalki is an investigative thriller which clicks in the second half. There is nothing special or exciting about this film as the twists are revealed in an interesting manner in the last twenty minutes only.

Director Prasanth Varma deploys heroism at regular intervals to rev up the proceedings.  This can be seen as his way of making up for the near-total absence of punchlines.

Nasser plays a Sadhu whose concealed identity is a surprise.  The idea of Karma coming back is conveyed through this character. The element of a village where venomous snakes abound adds to the intrigue.

'Kalki' follows the template of an atypical murder mystery with a twist in the climax.  Technically rich, it could have presented a better screenplay to keep the excitement stable.  Rajasekhar delivers the goods.

Rajasekhar who is known for playing angry cop roles has played the role of an investigative police officer. His body language and his performance is okay but his over makeup is bad.

Prasanth Varma has proved that he has command over technicians in his debut movie ‘Awe’ itself. This film is made with bigger budget and he got best output from cinematographer Dasaradhi Shivendra.

Director Prasanth Varma debuted in “Awe”, a different psychological thriller made in a limited budget. His second film “Kalki” is a period investigative thriller.

Rajasekhar is known for Cop roles and that is how he attained the Angry Young Man image. Watching him in 'Kalki' makes people feel that he shouldn't have done this movie.

Background Score provided by Sravan Bharadwaj is outstanding to say the least and offers goosebumps. At times, One gets the feeling that he tried to elevate the scenes with BGM though there is no such requirement.

Generally, Investigative Thrillers work when the curiosity is maintained from start to finish. 'Kalki' is partly successful in doing so as few twists are very interesting but their presentation could have been better.
