Remaking such a classic is no joke and credit should go to director Prem Kumar who has managed to keep the soul intact. One can say that the film is a faithful remake with superlative performances by the lead pair.

As the film is a remake, many will have mixed reactions and will draw comparisons from the original. So, for them the film might be a bit dull. The film is a clear A centre multiplex film with not much entertainment.

On the whole, Jaanu is a faithful remake which has the feel and emotions intact from the original. The film will surely draw comparisons as those who did not see the original will love it and all those who watched it will find it slow paced.

K. Ramachandra decides to pay a visit to his school en route. Like any other film which deals with coming of age theme, majority of the first half revolves around the infatuation of 10 th grade students Janaki and Ramachandra.

Jaanu is a faithful remake that is able to recreate the essence of its original. Second half has many heartwarming scenes and dialogues. Sharwanand, Samantha’s great performance and background score are excellent.

C Prem Kumar revisits the now-famous story of 96 via its Telugu remake Jaanu. Fans of the Tamil original wondered if the same magic can even be recreated for a second time.

K Ramachandra aka Ram (Sharwanand) is a travel photographer, a lone ranger and a free spirit who has built up layers of walls over the years and formed his own bubble to live in.

C Prem Kumar does not tell you a novel tale that will blow your mind due to how out of the world it all is. He’s much smarter than that, telling you a tale you can truly relate to in the most beautiful manner.

Remaking a film which is already considered as a classic is very tough. The film fails badly even if one step goes wrong. That is why many filmmakers avoid remaking memorable films.

'Jaanu' is another feather in Sharwanand's cap. The actor once again picks up a challenging role and gives a matured performance. He did exceptionally well in the emotional scenes and also provided a bit of comic relief at times.

Dil Raju did not spend heavily on this film but gave what is necessary. The camera work by Mahendiran is fantastic. He kept the visuals as simple as possible to suit the narration. There are a lot of steady shots in this film.

“96” was the most-talked-about Tamil love story in recent times. Ever since Sharwanand and Samantha agreed to play the lead roles in its Telugu remake, the buzz around this movie had begun to build.

Sharwanand in the role that was played by Vijay Sethupathi has displayed the maturity required. He is earnest, his efforts are noticeable. He has pulled it off.

“Jaanu” is a faithful remake of the Tamil movie “96” since this romantic drama is also handled by C Premkumar, the writer-director of the original version. It is a touching film that manages to strike a chord with old-style romance.

Writer-director C Premkumar, who also directed the Tamil original '96', makes his characters, their tender emotions, their no-so-enviable circumstances and their fates do the talking.

The second half could have done without more of the same.  Mirchi Kiran adapts the dialogue originally written in Tamil in an able fashion, but there should definitely have been more depth.

It's one thing to remake a masterpiece.  It's quite another to remake a classic.  Director C Premkumar delivers a mixed package, one must say.

Ram is an introvert and he falls in love with his 10th classmate Janaki. Though both of them understand that they are in love with each other, there was never a formal communication.

Sharwanand has got a charmingly innocent face which has been exploited in various movies in the past to a good effect.

The viewers of this film can be categorised into two types. People who have watched the original Tamil film ‘96 and those who haven’t watched. I belong to the second category.
