No one other than Ram would have done this role of Ismart Shankar. Ram’s transformation is just mind blowing and Puri showcases him in a never before seen manner.

One of the biggest drawbacks is that the story of the film is the same old Puri mark cop story. The only difference here is that Puri has added a memory transfer concept and made the hero a cop once again. But sadly, he does not make use of it well.

One the whole, Ismart Shankar is an unapologetic full on mass masala entertainer aimed at the masses. Ram’s crazy makeover will be loved by many. His one man show and good music make the very ordinary story and dull narration click in several areas.

Do you know what is the Tollywood director's idea of writing updated stories?  In the 1990s, an MLA or MP used to be murdered in our movies.  In the 'updated' stories of today, it's a former CM, CM, or even someone higher up.

Shayaji Shinde is investigating the high-profile murder case but it's as if he has no resources to complete the task (despite the Prime Minister's support, that too).

'iSmart Shankar' features a predictable story with an inspired spin on the hero's character.

Ram is the heart and soul of the movie. He puts blood into the character, and it shows on screen. The whole body language and attitude are different compared to his earlier outings.

Puri Jagannadh is a brand and an experienced pro when it comes to handling commercial entertainers.

However, Puri Jagannadh pours water on those expectations by taking the narrative on a predictable beaten to death path. There is some fun initially, but as soon as we get to the core story, it all seems been-there-done-that kind.

Touted to be an exciting action drama, the film iSmart Shankar starring Ram Pothineni, Nabha Natesh and Niddhi Aggerwal released today in the theatres. Both Ram and Puri are in a dire need of a hit and this film is a ray of hope for them.

When compared to its previous movies, Ram has got a completely different kind of role and the young actor has delivered his best in essaying that role. His energetic performance, dialogue delivery and body language justified the role perfectly well.

The production values by Puri Jagannath and Charmme Kaur are outstanding and can be considered as the major plus points of this film.

Shankar ( Ram) alias self-proclaimed ‘UstaadIsmart Shankar’ is a supari killer in Hyderabad. He’s jailed after assassinating the chief minister, and escapes after a year. CBI pursues another high profile case and Shankar’s case in parallel.

This film scores less on story front, high on energy and entertainment levels. The racy screenplay, Puri’s strength in infusing humor into the scene overcome majority of the shortcomings.

Ismart Shankar is a paisa vasool commercial potboiler. Director Puri Jagan and Hero Ram complemented each other well, for Ram this is career best performance.

With iSmart Shankar Puri Jagannadh aims to bring the story of a flawed, seemingly heartless criminal, who happens to fall for the only girl who will not put up with his nonsense.

Ram Pothineni however gives Shankar his all, bringing in a kind of energy that makes it a delight to watch him on-screen, even at his most-disgusting self. He especially comes through when the film requires him to showcase massy dance steps in horribly ill-placed songs.

iSmart Shankar is a loud, messy and pakka mass film that fails to take off. While Mani Sharma’s effective music and BGM adds to the noise (literally), it doesn’t do much to help the film.

This is a dream character for Ram and he has done a fabulous job in an extremely eccentric character. We could see on screen how much he loved playing iSmart Shankar.

Puri Jagannadh plays to his strengths by lifting an idea from a Hollywood film. He relies heavily upon the makeover of the lead actor and does the same that he has been doing in every movie.

Puri Jagannadh has a unique style of presenting his heroes. He brings the eccentric side of actors that we had known for years and surprises us. He gives them a stunning makeover that every actor waits for his turn to do a Puri's film.

Ram has transformed his body and look for this role. Not only has his body language changed, but his performance is also different from his regular style here.

Mani Sharma has given some good tunes which are aimed at mass audiences and they have hit the bull’s eye. His background score, as always, is terrific.

Puri Jagannadh has been going through a lean phase and his recent films made critics declare that he is out of form and has run out of fresh ideas.

Former Chief Minister Kashi Viswanath (Joy Badlani) is killed by Shankar (Ram Pothineni), who commits crimes for money.

Do you know what is the Tollywood director's idea of writing updated stories?  In the 1990s, an MLA or MP used to be murdered in our movies.  In the 'updated' stories of today, it's a former CM, CM, or even someone higher up.

'iSmart Shankar' features a predictable story with an inspired spin on the hero's character.  Caricaturish villains, a grossly underdeveloped investigation track, love tracks that are rich in hate-feminism elements, a lazy climax - you have them all.
