As usual, Gopichand does a sincere job in his role. He looks fit as the RAW agent and shoulders the film throughout. Be it his fights or dialogue delivery, Gopichand has done a commendable job in the film.

Firstly, the film is loosely based on several Hindi spy thrillers in recent times. It is heavily inspired from Nikhil Advani’s D Day. After starting the film with a bang, the makers bring in the same old comedy, song and dance routine.

On the whole, Chanakya is a routine spy thriller which works in a strictly few areas. While the action and Gopichand lead from the front, dull narration and poor screenplay take the film down in no time.

Gopichand has played the role of a RAW officer in a typical mas-hero style. He has portrayed the character in his usual manner.

The film is shot lavishly in Rajasthan and surrounding areas. Superb camerawork by Vetri is the main highlight of the movie.

Spy thrillers are Hollywood’s forte. Many Indian films have drawn inspiration from the Hollywood movies and followed their template of spy genre to a large extent.

Gopichand does his job as sincerely as one expects of him. He goes through the process with clinical ease. The loudness is toned down a bit, and the action is highlighted, which is his strength.

The movie starts interestingly with an operation conducted by RAW. The tone of the film is set. Chanakya is not a serious spy thriller.

Vishal Chandrasekhar and Sricharan Pakala are credited with the music of the movie. The former has provided the songs which are okay, but unnecessary. The latter has done an excellent job with BGM.

Arjun aka Ramakrishna (Gopichand) is an undercover RAW agent who performs an operation with colleagues which is directly linked to ISI terrorist head Qureshi.

Gopichand is undoubtedly the show stealer of this movie. The actor has not only got a complex role in this film but pulled it off with so much of energy and invested his best performance for this role. We can say that Gopichand has appeared in a different kind of role when compared to his previous movies and gave his 100% for the role.

The movie has a strong plotline and the director has narrated it in a hard-hitting way. The movie starts off on an interesting note and the first 30 minutes of the movie itself will engage the audience. The entire first half is somewhat slow and is about the character establishments.

Arjun (Gopichand) is a RAW marshall who’s said to be one of the best in the field, and yet never follows even the simplest of orders given by his Chief, Gulkarni (Nasser).

When the tale finally comes back to track, it’s still not enough because despite trying way too hard, the film’s ‘twists’ never really manage to surprise you.

By the time Gopichand’s Arjun reveals in a throwaway dialogue why in the world the film is named Chanakya, the sigh that escapes one’s lips is not of surprise but sheer exhaustion. Go watch this one at your own risk!

After several disastrous movies including his silver jubilee flick Pantham hero Gopichand is back teaming with Tamil director Thiru for the spy thriller Chanakya costarring Mehreen Pirzada.

Gopichand is good as he's extremely fit and strong for action sequences and his emotions are subtle as always. Mehreen Pirzada provides the glam angle and also emotes quite well while Zareen Khan's lip-sync is a matter of concern.

After several flops in Tamil director Thiru has entered Tollywood with a spy thriller and a flop hero as lead.
